Hogares Inc. Site Prototype

Well, here is another design suggestion that I put together in a few hours just to give my brother and his company an idea of what they could be doing. Since they are only looking to update the content on their site, they shot down the idea of a complete renovation. Please see their current site (link below) for the many reasons why I suggested a new site when he asked me about the content.

Passing Paper

I was recently in the mood for "photoshoping" some designs onto some blank surfaces, the one problem I came across was that I didn't have any. Well, a quick search turned up all kinds of different blank surfaces and paper products. The only problem was they were way to expensive for a 3D rendering of blank paper. So I decided to make my own... It was rather enjoyable, so I got carried away and did some extra random stuff (Mac monitor, Poster).

Anyway, the results can be found at the RSS link below (for free). There is a zip that has all of them in it. Have fun, and show me what you create, out.

Hogares Inc. Now Hiring Flyer

While in New Mexico my brother came to me with a few flyers and pamphlets asking to have them redesigned if I thought they needed it. Well, it turned out that I thought they needed it pretty bad. He works for a nonprofit company "Hogares" which works with "at risk" children and their families.

We only had time to do the flyer, as he need it to take it in for approval the following day. We spent about and hour or two getting the flyer created in InDesign. He consolidating the text from two flyers, as I laid it out on the page.

The result was nothing special, but he has been reporting to me that they've been getting many responses to the flyer. He says they still could use the pamphlets redesigned, so I told I would give it a shot when I can find the time.

Accu-Sound

After years in the making, my mom (and a friend of hers) have finally seen their product hit the shelves (here). They are both midwives currently stationed in Las Cruces New Mexico. The Accu-Sound is a uterine sound with a unique sliding ring that provides nurses and doctors more accurate measurements. I provided some initial 3D models and dimensional drawings that were used to convey the design of the tool to the manufacturer.

I have rarely seen anyone who cares about the work they do as much as my mom. She is constantly expressing her concerns about the patients she sees and the practices that take place in here clinics and hospitals. So in here quest to be the best nurse she can, she has found a way to make an attempt of improving the profession that she has enjoyed so much.

What is a uterine sound you may ask... Turns out there are many uses for it both medical and non, but in the medical field they are often used to take measurements of internal female parts.

Our House

I guess the idea was "forced community". The plan of the house has the up-stairs of each residence located above the down-stairs of the other. The four stairways located in a small gap between the main portions of the building run parallel to each other. Large porches and balconies which extend to the roof, accessible by their respective staircase toward the side of the building. Im not sure what the room plan would look like because I was only concerned with the massing... It was just fun to think about the interactions that would take place by the occupants.

Acoma Haak'u Foundation

These are some early sketches of a site that could have been. I was curious as to what the layout possibilities were for a native american foundation that supports a cultural center and a museum. So I spent around eight hours finding out.

These are the layouts that I thought could work even though it was the first direction. I showed Ashley who
(at the time of this post) happens to be the development director. The foundation board eventually decided that they didnt need a site, and would piggy back on those of the museum and cultural center.

A design direction for an in store kiosk. The goal was to create an interactive questionnaire that would gather data about the sleeper(s) so the Experience Bed could create an accurate recommendation for bed firmness and pillow size.

Project Periphery

This was a small personal project which took a brief look at the importance of the transitional phases in a multidisciplinary project. The four phases that I became accustom to at the time were strategy, UX, design, and technology. I feel and have felt that there is not enough time calculated into these critical areas where communication is least efficient.

San Francisco 10yr Plan To End Chronic Homelessness

In my free time I try to contribute to places that I think could use design or development work. Even though this work was not received well by the individual I showed it to, I thought it was successful for my progress in design. Its amazing how awful the information in the original pdf is presented. I thought that anyone interested in finding out about this huge plan to end chronic homelessness in San Francisco would immediately be turned away by the lengthy presentation of text with no consideration of pace, and very little consideration of hierarchy.

Commanding Content

Commanding Content was a piece that I put together based on a series of images which contained what I considered "Commanding Content". Many of these images were of homeless individuals in various states throughout the city. Others seemed to capture the unique relationship between the city and the individuals who populate its streets, buildings, cable cars and parks. San Francisco is truly an experience that I would recommend to everyone; not to visit, but to become apart of it habitat for at least a year.

Us We Them They

The main goal of "Us We Them They" was to take hundreds of photos of people on Powell st in San Francisco to capture the diversity of life that strolls that street. During the process I was able to meet a homeless gentleman who (most often) goes by the name "Bone Head".

It was Christmas eve 2007 which proved to be a successful night of shooting, but was made a magnificent night by being able to have dinner with and take photos of this peaceful man. We talked and joked for hours about the stories he had to tell, and about his experiences in the heart of San Francisco. I would eventually make my way back home where I wrote a pretty lengthy account of my experience that night with Bone Head. A copy of that pdf will be available sometime soon.
